AS5039 is the Australian Security Door Standard, and it's the benchmark you should be checking for on any hinged or sliding security door — including our Ultra Stainless range.
What it tests
Doors certified to AS5039 are tested against a set of forced-entry scenarios, including:
- Dynamic impact — simulating a body impact or kick against the door and frame.
- Jemmy testing — prying at the frame and hinge points with a lever.
- Knife shear — testing whether the mesh or grille can be cut through with a blade.
- Pull testing — checking the mesh or grille can't be pulled away from the frame by hand.
What it doesn't guarantee
Certification applies to the door and frame as tested — it doesn't automatically cover a bad installation. A certified door fitted into a rotten timber frame, or with screws that don't reach solid structure, won't perform to the standard in practice. Installation quality matters as much as the certification itself.
What to check when comparing quotes
- Ask to see the AS5039 certification for the specific door range being quoted, not just a general claim that "it's security rated."
- Confirm the door includes a compliant lock — the standard covers the door and frame assembly as a whole, hardware included.
- Ask who's doing the install and whether they're fixing into structural framing, not just the architrave.
A certified door is only as strong as the frame it's fitted into.
